Can a Men’s Grooming Brand Help Save Lives? The Kick The Stigma Story
Can a men’s grooming brand genuinely make a difference to men’s mental health?
That was at the heart of my recent conversation with JustHamzaa, where I shared the story behind Kick The Stigma, why I believe purpose and profit can work together, and the ambition to build a global grooming brand that helps change the conversation around men’s mental health.
Kick The Stigma is not simply about selling hair products. It is about turning something millions of men already do every morning — getting ready — into a reminder to look after their minds as well as their appearance.
What is Kick The Stigma?
Kick The Stigma is a UK men’s grooming brand created with a clear mission: help men look good, feel good and do good.
We make premium grooming products while donating 5% of every sale to mental health charities. The brand is designed to start conversations, challenge the stigma around men talking about their mental health and make supporting the cause part of an everyday purchase.
Put simply: we want grooming products to become conversation starters.
Why did I start Kick The Stigma?
The idea actually began long before the products.
In 2022, I helped launch Raisa’s Barbers with the ambition of creating more than another place to get your hair cut. We wanted a psychologically safe space where everyone felt welcome.
Through that experience, I saw how important barbers can be to men. A barber can be a confidante, a listener and sometimes one of the few people a man speaks openly with.
That led to mental-health initiatives including our Kick The Stigma charity football tournaments, which raised more than £4,000, and involvement in Westminster Council’s TrimTalks campaign, which trained barbers in mental health first aid.
But there was a limitation.
You might visit your barber once or twice a month.
Your grooming products are there every day.
That insight became Kick The Stigma.
How can grooming support men’s mental health?
We are not pretending a tub of hair clay or sea salt spray can solve the mental health crisis.
But brands influence culture.
Every Kick The Stigma product can act as a small daily reminder that your mental health matters too. Every purchase can generate funding for mental health support. And every person wearing, sharing or talking about the brand can help make conversations about mental health feel more normal.
Sometimes change starts with something small.
Can Kick The Stigma become a global brand?
That is the ambition.
I want to prove that a commercially successful global grooming company can have social impact built into its business model rather than bolted on afterwards.
The bigger Kick The Stigma becomes, the bigger the potential impact becomes.
That is what makes this journey exciting. We are building great products, but ultimately we are trying to build something much bigger:
A movement that helps men look better, feel better and talk more openly.
